Dear all,
The Gigawatt Kickstarter campaign has come to an end. We are stoked with the outcome and thank you for your support. It’s been a great four weeks, and following are some highlights of the same:
Over €63.000 raised
Fully funded with the minimum goal of €16.000 in three hours
Almost 400% funding activity
More than 900 backers from 37 countries
The Deluxe Pledge was the most pledged
268 add-ons comprising alternative money, wooden box and the special edition inception coin
Stretch goals up to €60.000 unlocked, implying additional components of 3D connections and pawns, power plant container box, durable money, custom box inlay, energy nuggets, six new tech cards, and player aid personalization.
Social goal of gaining 400 new followers across platforms, implying the implementation of the highly anticipated Solo Mode. Moreover, the box, the board, and tech cards will now be produced in linen finish.
The next steps will be communicated in the succeeding update later this week. We will explain how the pledge manager works, the ability to execute late pledges and/or changes to the current pledge, the survey, where you will be asked to answer some questions, and report your shipping address, and lastly, a timeline of the project here on will be provided.

After €60.000, comes a new stretch goal of €75.000, “Get Smart”. With this, two sentence insightful knowledge nuggets will be added on each technology card.
If you missed it in the last update: we now offer full versions of Gigawatt in Dutch, German, and French. Moreover, due to Kickstarter’s restrictions, we have changed the energy poverty donation in rewards to planting trees to offset extra carbon emissions.
Good news on languages and less good news on energy poverty

Dear backers,
We have 2 topics to update you on.
Firstly, good news regarding the “languages” topic. Secondly, less good news on our anticipated donation to tackling energy poverty through our Kickstarter.
Languages: As mentioned in the comments earlier, we have been exploring options to extend the translation into Dutch, German and French in print. Originally, we would make a translated version of the rulebook available online for these languages. We are very happy to announce we now offer a fully translated version into these 3 languages.
The language only has an effect on three elements:
1) Rulebook;
2) Technology cards; and
3) Back of the box
On the rulebook, we have decided to include all 4 languages in the hard-copy rulebook that we include in the box.
The technology cards were a harder nut to crack, because our manufacturer can only do this starting at a 1.000 games per language, which is not realistic at the moment. Therefore, we had to look for other card manufactures that could deal with smaller volumes. We are happy we found another European supplier to support here.
Despite extra costs on our side, we will provide this free of charge for the “Standard Edition”, “Deluxe Edition”, “2x GIGAWATT Standard Edition”, “MEGA PLEDGE” and “GIGA PLEDGE” (incl. the “-10% Day 1 Discount” and “-5% Day 2 Discount” variants that may apply) pledges.
The information on the back of the box will also have descriptions in the 4 languages.
With this, we hope we have provided a practical solution to those who had questions around this and we hope to welcome even more backers from these language regions!
Fighting energy poverty becomes planting trees:
Our campaign rewards currently include an “Energy Poverty” donation. In our preparation we have not realized that this is against the guidelines from Kickstarter. The Kickstarter team and a kind backer (thanks!) have informed us about this and although they support the idea, it is against their rules, so we have to change these rewards.
Instead we decided to plant trees to offset extra carbon emissions through planting trees and make GigaWatt even greener (the production is already CO2 neutral and plastic free thanks to our production partner Ludo Fact).
Although we still find our original plan more original and actual (given very high energy prices at the moment), we hope you agree this is a good alternative.
Unfortunately, we cannot update any descriptions regarding energy poverty in the various rewards, but we will do so in the general text.

1 Week to Go, €50.000 Stretch Goal Unlocked, New €60.000 Goal & Media Coverage

With just one week to go until the campaign ends, Gigawatt has fetched over €50.000. We couldn’t be prouder of this milestone. Thanks to you, along with the other additions like 3D connections and pawns, power plant container box, durable money, custom box inlay, and energy nuggets, we will also add 6 more illustrated technology cards. More tech cards imply more fun gameplay with more strategic options.
Please continue backing to help us reach the new €60.000 stretch goal, “Region Upgrade”. With this goal, our designer Yvonne will add personalized visual identities to the design of the Player Aid of each region. It will include visuals of the most dominant resource, the link to the demand pawn, and other characteristics.
We are crowdsourcing Webinar topics: As mentioned in the previous update. Every backer (including the donation pledges) will get access to the Gigawatt Webinar. We want the agenda to be decided by you! We can speak about the energy transition in Europe, the recent breakthrough on hydrogen production (up to 95% efficiency), an advanced collaboration situation in the game, or certain rules that we plan to streamline. Hey there 👋
The Gigawatt team is happy to announce that we have raised more than €47.000. This means that the stretch goal of €45.000 has been passed, and we are well on our way to reach the next target of €50.000. From this point on, we will add energy nuggets to the game, i.e., all the energy concepts and the way they are implemented in the game will be explained. Additionally, reaching the next goal will allow us to include 6 new technology cards, which will make the game even more interesting and competitive. In the next update, we will introduce some fun, new stretch goals.
As mentioned in update #3, we have some social goals too. Thanks to your support, we have almost gained more than 400 additional followers across platforms like Instagram and Twitter until now. This will enable us to produce many components of Gigawatt like the box, the board, and the tech cards in linen finish. The highly anticipated Solo Mode is unlocked as well now. It is already designed and we are working hard to finalize it. We will announce more details once playtesting is concluded.
Many people requested an overview and explanation of the rounds of the game in the past few days. So we made a how to play video for you. The creators Milo and Wouter take you through a bit of background on how Gigawatt came about, the setup of the game, and one round of gameplay with the five steps from tech cards to auctions. The video is now available on our YouTube channel. If you have doubts, need more clarity, don’t know about the game or are just a Giga fan, make sure to check it out and support us in our venture.
